Welcome to Manhattan the birthplace and center of New York City. Manhattan is home to some very popular tourist attractions as well as most major United States televison, radio and telecomunication companies. It is also the major center in the United States for cultural, financial and commercial standings, and could be said, to some extent, for the World.
Manhattan supplies almost two thirds of the jobs for the entire New York City metropolitan. There are 2.3 million workers in the area. Manhattan is like a breathing sector of New York City, during the day the population in the borough grows to almost 3 million with commuters adding almost 1.4 million to the population, this is the largest commuter generated workforce in any country, and is triple commuters to the second largest commuting city of Washington D.C.
The average income generated in this borough of New York City is the highest in the country being 85% higher then the weekly income earned nationwide with a salary growth of 7.8%. The weekly average wage for workers is $1,453 ( not counting bonuses). The majority of the workforce in Manhattan is within the white collar professions, there are also almost 40,000 workers in manufacturing and 31,600 workers in construction only a small fraction of the employment sector of the borough.
There are very few people in Manhattan that own a car, 75% of the households do not. Workers and residents depend on public transportation and what a system that is! New York City has the best public transportation system of any city in the United States and probably close to, if not, the best in the world.
