A  One Star hotel is usually smaller and is usually ran by the owner. The furnishing and facilities offered are clean but basic. They usually do not have a restaurant available, but are usually situated in areas that affordable restaurants and attractions are close by.

A two star hotel: Is usually run by a small chain business with a good reputation. It is usually mid range in size and within good distance to restaurants and shopping as well as attractions. You may have telephones, television in the room as this is common in a two star but will not have a restaurant or bell service.

A three star hotel usually offers larger space, nice size rooms and a decorated lobby. They usually have a small restaurant that offers breakfast through dinner, some may have room service. Valet parking may be available as well as swimming pools and fitness areas.

A four star hotel is large and very formal. Very nice front desk, bellhop service, decorated lobby, larger rooms. Nicely furnished. They usually have a restaurant and room service. one or more swimming pools, fitness center, valet parking...etc.

A five star is the best of the best and the highest caliber of accommodations you can get. They have a tremendous degree of service catering to the customers needs is their  priority. They may have up to 3 restaurants with exceptional menus, garden tubs, jacuzzi, in room video libraries and much more.

The Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in New York City, pictured at the left , is one of New York City's most elegant hotels.  The hotel was designed by Lloyd Morgan, an architect with Schultz and Weaver, in 1929 and completed in 1931.  It was the largest hotel of its kind at the time with 47 floors and 2,200 rooms.  The architectural design is Art Deco, which was an international design movement from 1925-1939, and is meant to be purely decorative. This Waldorf-Astoria Hotel has been the preferred hotel for dignities from around the world. Every American President, since Herbert Hoover, has stayed here in the "Presidential Suite", as well as other heads of state.  "The Royal Suite" occupies the entire 50th Street length of the top floor of the hotel and was the former residence of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. The Waldorf-Astoria became an official landmark in New York City in 1993. The Waldorf Salad, was created here. The Waldorf-Astoria is known for its excellent service and beautiful accommodations.

The Plaza, opened in 1907, is another New York City hotel that became a landmark in 1969, and is the only New York City hotel to be designated as a National Historic Landmark. The Plaza was designed by Henry Hardenbergh in the French Renaissance style. It is located on Fifth Avenue and Central Park South and overlooks the southeast corner of Central Park in Midtown Manhattan. The Plaza has just under gone a two year, 400 million dollar renovation. There are 282 guestrooms and 102 suites that have the largest square footage of any luxury property in New York. The Grand Ballroom and Terrace Room have been restored to their original grandeur. The Plaza has returned in all its magnificence.
